WORKING WITH CLIENTS HAVING BARIATRIC SURGERY

IN PERSON AT BERNE HOUSE

with Sharon Baker CTA(P)

Saturday 11 May 2024

In this seminar, we will explore the reasons why clients may consider bariatric surgery.

This is a procedure to reduce the size of the stomach and there are several different types of surgery available. Bariatric surgery can be available on the NHS if certain criteria is met, and in private hospitals and abroad. Each provider uses a different frame of reference which we will explore.

Using a fictitious case, we will follow the journey of a client undergoing bariatric surgery, exploring ethical issues, internalised fatphobia, weight and size unconscious bias. We will explore what therapists need to know about the bariatric surgery process and how best to support clients using TA concepts such as contracting, ego states and discounting.

MANY CHAIRS TO EXPLORE THE CLIENT'S MULTIPLICITY OF SELF

LIVE ONLINE

with Ben Groves CTA(P)

Wednesday 12 June 2024

Since Fritz Perls in the 60’s, psychotherapists have been using ‘chair work’ in a range of disciplines to support clients. This seminar will explore some of the common ways of using ‘chair work’ in client work considering both TA and non-TA approaches including, 2 chair work, 5 chair work, parent interview, child exploration, and family constellations. We will cover what the purpose is of using chair work, and how to practically do it.

The aim is to give an overview of chair work, utilizing Tenconi (2020), and Bromberg’s (1996) ideas around multiplicity of self and support participants to feel confident to use this as a tool in their work.
