Advanced Clinical Development Group
This is a new advanced training and supervision group that focuses on clinical practice and development. It is open to all trainees (whether at The Berne Institute or at other centres) who have completed at least two years of training and who have private or agency clients. Group sessions will be led either by “Berne” Tutor and Supervisor Frances Townsend CertCouns MSc PTSTA(P) or by visiting trainers. The Advanced Clinical Development Group will meet once per month. Meetings will be on Sundays, 1.00 pm – 6.00 pm.Two clinical topics will be presented at each one-day session. Examples of these topics are given in the list below. There will be skills-practice sessions related to each topic, with opportunity for supervision.

· Child development deficitsFor CTA credit hours participants may count one hour for each significant piece of supervision received, and the remaining hours may be logged as Advanced TA Training. For Berne Institute MSc students the training hours may be credited to Core Disciplines in consultation with their tutors.
This group will supplement existing training and development programmes. For example, Berne Institute trainees can use the group in the following ways:
a) in addition to TA training groupsDates Beginning in September 2009, the group will meet from 1.00 pm – 6.00 pm on the following ten Sundays: 4 Oct, 1 Nov, 6 Dec, 10 Jan, 7 Feb, 7 Mar, 18 Apr, 23 May, 27 June, 25 Jul.
b) after training and before joining the Exam Group
c) in addition to the Exam Group
d) in lieu of a “time-out” year
e) in preparation for Diploma accreditation and assessment
f) after accreditation as a continuing professional development process that meets UKCP requirements.Venue The Advanced Clinical Development Group will meet at The Berne Institute, Berne House, 29 Derby Road, Kegworth DE74 2EN. If you would like directions, or a list of local accommodation, please ask the Course Registrar when you book for the group and he will be glad to send you these details.
Fees The fee is £850 for the ten meetings. This is a membership fee and not an attendance fee. Group members must also be current members of The Berne Institute (annual membership fee £50, if not already a “Berne” member). It is possible to pay the balance of the fee in instalments, using a Bank Standing Order; if you would like to take advantage of this arrangement, please let the Course Registrar know at the time of booking and we will send you the necessary forms.
Booking your place To book a place in the group, please contact the Course Registrar at The Berne Institute (address above). The booking deposit is £100. (If you are not already a member of The Berne Institute, please also send £50 to cover your membership fee). Please make cheques payable to “The Berne Institute”. If you initially apply for a place by phone or email, please send your deposit payment (and membership fee if applicable) by post to confirm your booking. Places will only be held on receipt of the appropriate deposit payment.
If you are currently in training at a centre other than “The Berne”, please get clearance from your trainer before applying to join the group. This is required by the ITA Professional Practices Guidelines.
